MACHINE OPERATOR TRAINING - FAQ

  • What is a Machine Operator? - Wiebel uses state of the art, computer programmed equipment to machine precision components for the aerospace industry. A machine operator runs the equipment. He or she loads the metal components into the equipment, changes the tools when necessary, ensures the equipment runs continuously, and inspects the parts coming off to ensure adherence to high quality standards. The machine operator will also be trained to do some manual machining.
  • Will I be a Certified Machinist when I complete the training? - No, however, all training time counts toward your apprenticeship. The Machinist License can then be accomplished through an Apprenticeship process. Machine Operator will be trained and supervised by Certified Machinists.
  • What is the job market for a Machine Operator? - The aerospace industry is constantly growing in PEI and there is a shortage of skilled labor to address our needs. Specifically, Wiebel has undertaken a three-year expansion whereby production will grow significantly as well as the corresponding positions to support production.
  • Will I have a job at Wiebel when the training is complete? - Wiebel will hire one or all candidates. Assuming you demonstrate the appropriate aptitude and attitude throughout the training, a permanent full time job will be offered to you.
  • What are the hours? - The 10-week training will take place during the day. After successfully completing the training, the successful individuals will be able to run machines themselves and will move into the general schedule, rotating days and nights. Overtime may be required from time to time to meet production schedules.
